Popular loop trail in the Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park, Bavaria.
From the village square in Grafenkirchen, follow Jakobstrasse northwards. Turn left into Bachstrasse and leave it in 140 m to the right. Past a field cross with a bench and along the stream and then on to the edge of the forest. There you can always take a seat on a bench and enjoy the surroundings. At the next turn, take a right onto the forest road and follow the markings over the left forest road. If you look closely, you can discover a small carved tortoise on a beech tree next to a nature park signpost. You stay on the forest road for about 1.5 km. Then follow a slightly uphill forest path on the left for 220 m, then turn right onto an easier forest path in the direction of Obernried. After that follow the asphalt road until you reach a nature park sign pointing to the right. At this point, you also have the alternative of visiting Obernried (chapel and refreshment stops). The view of Cerchov, Hohenbogen and the Bavarian Forest Mountains is breathtakingly beautiful when the weather is clear, when you are on the subsequent field path. At the field cross, keep to the right and shortly afterwards follow the meadow path in the direction of Gemeindeberg. On an old forest path, which is partly lined with stone walls, you hike to the edge of the forest, where you can again enjoy a beautiful view. Benches also invite you to rest. On a gravel path you come back to Grafenkirchen (refreshment stops; opening times Tues, Fri, Sun) to the starting point.
