Demanding crossing of the Kleiner Watzmann, Bavaria.
Alpine experience, surefootedness and orientation are essential for the crossing of the Kleiner Watzmann. This is a challenging mountain tour with exposed climbing sections.
From the Hammerstiel parking lot (fee required), the trail leads through Schapbachtal up to Kührointalm. Magnificent views accompany hikers along the way. From there, the trail leads partly across meadows and partly along forest paths up to the tree line. Here the trail becomes more challenging and leads up to the most difficult climbing point, the Gendarm (climbing point UIAA 2) to a protective cave (marked with a wooden post) up to the summit. The descent is via the east ridge to Mooslahnerkopf and back via Kührointhütte.
Caution! The ascent is only occasionally marked, the descent is not marked at all, only occasional cairns and footprints!!! The descent is at risk of falling rocks and is NOT recommended in wet conditions.
