The hike starts at the Hammerstiel car park (for a fee). This route is a constant, steep ascent. Once the Kühroint-Alm is reached, hikers have the opportunity to have a picnic, stop by the highest national park information centre or simply turn around and walk back down into the valley. On the way,the route will pass the Schapbachalm, which is also traditionally farmed in the summer months.
The hike can easily be combined with a hike up the Grünstein.
