Best trails in Lamington National Park
Lamington National Park is located on Queensland's Lamington Plateau of the McPherson Range. Its landscape consists of mountains with panoramic views, lush rainforests, creeks and waterfalls home to many animals, including threatened bird species, making it a great place to hike, camp and watch wildlife.
The park lies on the southern edge of the Scenic Rim, a chain of mountains stretching from the Gold Coast hinterland to Mount Mistake and is joined by parks, such as the Border Rangers National Park in New South Wales. Lamington National Park is made up of two sections — Green Mountains and Binna Burra. Green Mountains section is located on the western side of the Lamington Plateau. The Binna Burra section encompasses the rest of the park to the east.

Trail reviews for Lamington National Park
Completed the Toolona Creek Circuit in an anticlockwise direction in the early morning. Best time to see the Antarctic beech trees along the border track. The waterfalls and rainforest scenery were spectacular! Be prepared for leeches when it’s wet, there were hundreds of them. Also spotted a superb lyrebird, lamington crayfish and a dingo. One of the best walks in Lamington National Park.
Absolutely incredible walk, easily in my top 5’s for Lamington! Gentle inclines/ declines along the way so makes for a super easy enjoyable 12kms with lots of changing scenery to keep it interesting. A few muddy spots along the way so can make for slow going but nothing undoable.Highlight is when it starts to open up to the incredible views! Definitely recommend doing for sure
A varied walk showing off some of the best of the Lamington forests
Awesome trail. Wear hiking boots as creek crossings can be very slippery. Worth bringing a pair of sandals for the drive home as my shoes were super wet and muddy. Lots of waterfalls. Mostly shaded. No leeches but we saw a lamington cray and a couple of giant skinks.
What a thrill, feel like I have covered all the outstanding sights of Lamington's Binna Burra section'! The seemingly endless cascades of the Upper Ballunjui Falls, Tullawallal, the enchanting jungle sensation, and even encountered a large snake as I approached the end (kept as still as possible, and it's slow speed indicated Little possibility of danger). It's an absolute must visit
After heavy rains, this is one of my favourite day hikes in Australia. The waterfalls were gushing and we even saw a handful of Lamington crayfish. In the deepest crossings water was above knee depth, so I’d strongly recommend breathable trail runners rather than waterproof hiking boots (you will end up carrying two buckets of water around your feet). You are also less likely to have a fall if you wade rather than rock hop. We also saw a snake (not a python). Lots of leeches.
