Popular hiking trail with great views in the Berchtesgaden National Park, Bavaria.
This route begins with a boat tour (note the shipping timetable) across the Königsee, as this is the only way to reach the starting point, St. Bartholomä. From here, the route follows an ancient path along the shore, which initially leads flat along the Königssee.
The route then goes uphill through the forest, so that beautiful views over the Königssee and the Obersee can soon be enjoyed. Past the Schrainbach Falls, the route finally goes to the Funtensee, the coldest place in Germany, and the excellently located Schrainbach Holzstube on the notorious Saugasse.
Here in the Berchtesgaden Alps, 36 hairpin bends and a few meters of altitude await. Along the steep rock faces, however, there are wonderful views of the surrounding area. Then it goes leisurely on to the Steinernes Meer, a karst and almost waterless high plateau. The way back follows the same route.
