The terrain changes into the high alpine karst landscape of the Steinernes Meer, a barren sea of rocks that requires careful orientation between the Kärlingerhaus and the Riemannhaus. Wire rope belays and iron pins help in the steep sections near the border ridge. This route is rated T3 on the SAC scale and requires a high level of physical endurance for the long descent towards Bachwinkl.
