Varied hiking trail to the Röthbach waterfall in the Berchtesgaden National Park, Bavaria. Germany's highest waterfall is located in the Berchtesgaden National Park. In two stages, it overcomes the so-called Röthwand, south of the Königsee and Obersee lakes, before plunging 470 meters into the depths. There is no higher waterfall in Germany and it is also one of the highest in the Alps. The route starts at the southern end of Lake Königssee, which can be reached by boat from the town of Königssee to the north of the lake (check the boat timetable). From the boat landing stage, a wide hiking trail leads up to the Saletalm mountain restaurant. A little further on, the route first crosses a stream and then leads along the Obersee to the Fischunkelalm. Here the path is wide and without shade in places. The Fischunkelalm is used by many tourists as a retreat and is somewhat managed in the summer months. It is possible to linger here or turn around, but it is worth continuing up towards the Röthbach Falls. The path there leads through a small section of forest and over a terrain step into the head of the valley, where the waterfall is reached. Highlights of the hike: - Steinernes Meer - Germany's largest waterfall - Magnificent views
