MAX100: Kochel - Seefeld

Popular section of the route that combines the familiar with the unfamiliar The Kochelsee is well known to mountain bikers and is the starting point for this Transalp tour. It is characterized by good accessibility from Munich via the autobahn and public transport. Immediately after the start, a strenuous climb awaits you on this route. However, this will be rewarded soon after the first pass with a wonderful view of the turquoise blue of the ice-cold Walchensee. Since the western shore passage of the Walchensee is usually very busy, the path around the lake is recommended. There it is almost traffic-free on a paved shore road. At Niedernach, however, the route leaves the leisurely shore path and a steeper passage to the Hochkopf begins. In particular, the final piece to the unmanaged Hochkopfhütte has technical uphill passages on single trails. Here, too, the effort is rewarded with a great view from the hut of the Isar basin between Wallgau and Mittenwald, of the Karwendel mountains and the Wetterstein. The descent from the hut begins immediately with a technically demanding trail. It's not far to reach the hut access road, but the heavily eroded passage with its slip-boards requires technical ability and is not suitable for beginners. On the further route, streams are passed and high moors are crossed. Attention: after longer periods of precipitation, the high moor passage can be as damp as a sponge and have mud holes.
