Bike tour no. 1 - Dike Tour with Detour to Wallnau

Panoramic circular tour on Fehmarn, Schleswig-Holstein. Starting from the village pond in Petersdorf, the route leads along well-maintained farm tracks on the northern edge of the village past Kopendorf towards Bojendorf. Here you can make a detour to the Wallnau waterfowl reserve. Over 60 bird species find their habitats in the varied landscape of beach, copses, meadows, reed beds and ponds. A nature reserve has been developed from the cultural landscape of a pond estate through intensive biotope management. In addition to the opportunity to hike through the visitor area on your own, the nature conservation association offers guided tours with trained staff. Bojendorf used to have a small harbour, which can still be seen in the area to the north of the village. From Bojendorf, the trail first heads west and then continues north along the dyke (you have to dismount at the dyke doors!) past the Fastensee lake (a fish pond that ensured a supply of fish during Lent) to Westermarkelsdorf. From here I had a good view of the Westermarkelsdorf wind farm. The path continues along the dyke, past the beacon and the weather station. To the north of the dyke is a fascinating beach forest landscape and from here you can see the northernmost tip of the island, the Markelsdorfer Huk (= hook). You can particularly enjoy the sunsets here. From here, the route continues along the dyke past several campsites. North of Wenkendorf, you leave the dyke (first section of gravel path) to cycle through the village of Wenkendorf to Dänschendorf. From Dänschendorf, it is worth making a detour to Schlagsdorf. The idyllic village pond is perfect for a picnic. Take care on the road to Petersdorf: expect heavy traffic here.
