Wanderung 3: Burg nach Wulfen

The hike begins at the West parking lot in Burg. Turn left onto Mühlenstraße and walk out of the town. You first walk around a lowland area, the so-called Wiesengrabenniederung. This is a wetland that was once created by the draining of a fen. After approx. 2 km, you come to the embankment of the former island railroad, which is now a cycle and footpath that leads west past Burg. In Burgstaaken, follow the path to the right onto the dyke and partly circle the Burger Binnensee. After approx. 2 km, you come to an asphalt road. Turn right here towards Wulfen and take the turn-off to the left again after entering the village. This brings you to the Wulfener Berg. The Wulfener Berg is a so-called drumlin, a ridge of gravel that was formed by the glaciers of the last ice age, which ended around 10,000 years ago. This was the site of an important Stone Age burial ground with megalithic tombs dating from 3,600 to 3,200 BC. A 60x7m longbed was reconstructed in 2010. You then reach the Bergmühle viewing point. The mill, first mentioned in a document in 1632, unfortunately no longer exists. At the end of the road you reach the beach. Walk to the right along the high shore, one of the island's three cliffs. At the edge of the cliff, you walk along the shore, past the old ferry station to the Fehmarnsund Bridge. The bridge was ceremoniously opened to traffic on April 30, 1963, two weeks before the Vogelfluglinie opened. The bridge is 963.4 m long, 21 m wide and crosses the sound on seven pillars. To get back to Wulfen, you leave the beach at the Miramar campsite and walk back along the Burger Binnensee after Wulfen via Burgstaaken to Burg.
