This route begins in Hilberath at the "Tor zur Eifel" hiking car park. The roads are in good condition. The only exception is the economic route from Kalenborn to Esch (to avoid the busy B257): the road is paved, but very bumpy. The descent to Marienthal is very nice, on a very quiet and well-paved road with a gradient of up to 12%.
