Idyllic nature hike in North Rhine-Westphalia. The starting point of this quiet route is the Hexenbuche car park east of Hilberath on the L 261. First it goes south up the hilly fields and then through dense forest to Vischel Castle, which stands on a remote clearing. Following the green banks of the Vischelbach, you get to Berg and then in a north arc through magnificent forest and wide meadows back to the starting point. This route begins in Hilberath at the "Tor zur Eifel" hiking car park. The roads are in good condition. The only exception is the economic route from Kalenborn to Esch (to avoid the busy B257): the road is paved, but very bumpy. The descent to Marienthal is very nice, on a very quiet and well-paved road with a gradient of up to 12%.
