Challenging hike in the Karwendel nature reserve and Karwendel foothills, Bavaria.
This hike starts in Mittenwald, leads to the Westliche Karwendelspitze (this detour is optional) and via the Dammkarsteig to the Karwendelbahn mountain railway station.
The Dammkarsteig is considered an easy via ferrata, it has sections secured with wire ropes as well as some steps and ladders. Sturdy shoes, a head for heights, sure-footedness, experience in alpine terrain and appropriate via ferrata equipment including a helmet are recommended for this hike. It is possible to return to the valley by cable car (for a fee).
