This route leads from Mittenwald to Scharnitz, passing the Leutasch Gorge, the Isar and the Porta Claudia Fortress. The starting point is south-east of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in the Isar valley, at the foot of the Wetterstein mountains. In the south of the city is the attractive Leutasch Gorge (note the seasonal opening times).
This moderately strenuous round tour, which leads across the German-Austrian border and gains around 290 meters in altitude, represents an excellent combination of a romantic hike through a gorge, along a beautiful river and a visit to an old fortress ruin.
The route goes from Mittenwald (Germany) to the Leutaschklamm, from the Leutaschklamm to the Fortress Porta Claudia, from the Fortress Porta Claudia to Scharnitz (Austria).
