#34 of 43 national parks

Lomsdal-Visten National Park boasts a remarkably diverse, wild landscape with narrow fjords and expansive valleys. The area is brought to life by rivers cascading over stunning waterfalls and spruce forests nestling amid steep alpine peaks. Dominated by mountains, plateaus, rugged gorges, river valleys, and small lakes, this region stands out for its unspoiled nature, which also includes pristine coastal areas.

Vistfjellan features impressive caves and limestone mountains, while the Lomsdal River surges over rapids and thunderous waterfalls. At 1,239 meters, Vistkjerringa is the tallest mountain in the national park.

The hiking experience here is unique, with virtually pathless terrain and an ambiance of tranquility; no roads lead into the park. While several hiking trails flank the edges of the national park, only a handful are marked in the high mountains. You will need to navigate the terrain using a map and compass.

There are a few rudimentary huts and simple shelters around, but if you plan on hiking longer, bringing a tent’s a good idea.
