Westwall and Simonskall Historical Hiking Trail

Exciting, varied Loop in Hürtgenwald. The loop connects the Westwall hiking trail with the Simonskall historical trail. The loop starts at the Hotel Talschenke and initially leads along the Wastwall hiking trail. Beautiful forest paths crisscross the countryside, allowing one to experience history up close. Several preserved bunkers and telephone connection points from the Second World War can be seen along the way. Interesting historical highlights are combined with glorious views over the narrow Kalltal valley and the former battlefield on the Ochsenkopf. Lots of information is provided along the route. The route dives into the historical hiking trail marked with a 36 into the quiet valleys of the Morlesief and Richelsbach until it reaches the Kalltalweg, which leads to the Mestrenger Mühle - a true testimony to industrial history. The corn mill has been in operation since 1663. After crossing the Kall, a tributary of the Rur, the trail leads into the Huschelbach valley to the Schaumeiler. The route ends in the idyllic village of Simonskall with its historic buildings.
