This historic hiking trail is one of the most popular routes in the Rureifel hiking region. During World War II, the Americans referred to the route through the Kall Gorge as the “Kall Trail.” In 1944, an attempt was made to halt the German Wehrmacht in a forested mountain range known as the Hürtgenwald. Many American soldiers lost their lives in the process. This event has gone down in history as one of the bloodiest battles of World War II and remains a case study in U.S. Army training to this day.
This route—both historically fascinating and scenically picturesque—begins at the Hürtgenwald 1944 Museum and continues through peaceful surroundings. You can expect a beautiful mix of forested areas and open terrain with sweeping views.
