Maximiliansweg Stage 16: Fischbachau - Mitteralm

This route is stage 16 of the Maximiliansweg, a long-distance trail through Germany and Austria, beginning in Fischbachau and ending at the Mitteralm. The path departs the town of Fischbachau, passing the historic Birkenstein pilgrimage church before ascending steep alpine paths. It climbs steadily through dense mountain forests and open alpine meadows, bypassing the rugged Breitenstein peak and navigating the upper slopes beneath the iconic Wendelstein massif before dropping down to the pasturelands of the Mitteralm. Overnight stays are accommodated at the Mitteralm alpine lodge; wild camping is strictly prohibited along this mountain terrain. Hikers must pack a reliable water filter to treat surface water from natural springs, as high ridge sections can be dry.
