Popular loop trail in the Upper Palatinate Forest Nature Park, Bavaria. One of the most delightful hikes in the Roetz area begins at the Hillstett hiking car park. You cross the picturesque river valley with its dark forests that extend to the banks of the Schwarzach. Over the Schwarzachbruecke at the Alte Wutzschleife, where you can watch the strong currents and the rapids of the Schwarzach, you get to the north side of the Eixendorfer reservoir. Here, hikers experience wonderful views, beautiful landscapes of rugged cliffs that reach the water and meadows rich in flowers. After the village of Eixendorf you have the option of shortening the 15 km long path by 2 km over the Eixendorfer bridge. The long loop stretches to the northern part of the Eixendorfer reservoir and then partly follows the Schwarzachtal cycle path back south towards Guetenland. On the south side of the lake, the hiking trail now runs along a wonderful bike and hiking trail on the former railway line towards Hillstett. Along the way there is not only wonderful nature, but also recommendable gastronomy and the Upper Palatinate handicraft museum with its various buildings.
