From Sassnitz to Lohme

Wonderful circular hike along the chalk coast on the island of Rügen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This picturesque circular route crosses popular paths in the Jasmund National Park and can be categorised as challenging due to its length. The route starts in Sassnitz near the park entrance (car parks available and bus travel possible). It heads north along the beautiful Baltic Sea coast to Lohme. There is a spectacular view of the Baltic Sea and the famous chalk cliffs. The route crosses ancient, magnificent beech forests, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In some places, there are short but steep climbs. It is also possible to descend to the beach in some places. Beware of the risk of falling! Only use the signposted sections of beach and do not get too close to the cliff edge. The famous Königsstuhl is on the route. You have to pay an entrance fee to visit the most famous chalk cliff. There are also opportunities to stop for refreshments at the Königsstuhl. From there, the route continues to Lohme. Here, too, it is worth taking a break and stopping for refreshments. If you don't want to walk any further, you can take the bus back to Lohme. On the way back, you pass Hagen, the old peat bog and other small ponds.
