Höllentorkopf - Eibsee

This challenging multi-day hike leads through one of the most spectacular alpine areas in Germany, right in the shadow of the Zugspitze. The route starts right at the hikers' car park at the Alpspitzbahn cable car. From the starting point, the trail first leads up into the rocky realm of the Höllentorkopf. Dramatic cirques and steep rock faces are crossed, where chamois can often be seen moving effortlessly in the extreme terrain. A particular highlight is the view of the Höllentalferner, one of Germany's last glaciers. In midsummer, gentian and the rare edelweiss bloom on the alpine meadows below the summits. As the route leads through high alpine terrain with via ferrata passages and very steep scree fields, crampon-compat ible mountain boots, a via ferrata set and absolute surefootedness and a head for heights are absolutely essential.
