This is a challenging circular hike in the Wetterstein Mountains. There isn’t much time to warm up on this route: from Hammersbach, the trail follows the Jägersteig steadily uphill to the top station of the Alpspitzbahn. You can plan a detour to the Höllentorkopf, which stands at 2,150 metres. The views are well worth the effort.
The return route takes you through the Hammersbach valley, known as the Höllental, which is not only breathtakingly beautiful but also serves as a popular ascent route to the nearby Zugspitze. A real highlight is the path through the wild Höllental Gorge (Caution: there may be a risk of rockfall in some sections). Sure-footedness, sturdy footwear and concentration whilst hiking are absolutely essential for this tour, but especially for the gorge.
