Just a few years ago, the entire staircase was re-secured, so that a sturdy steel cable runs almost the entire length. The Häntzschelstiege is therefore ideal for beginners, but should not be underestimated. The highlight of the tour is the view from the Affensteine, offering an excellent vista of the Falkenstein. The descent leads through the Wilde Hölle. The tour starts at the Nasser Grund hiking parking lot (subject to a fee), which is also accessible by bus and the Kirnitzschtalbahn. Note: The parking lot fills up quickly, especially on weekends and holidays, so it is always recommended to use public transportation. You must not leave the trails within the national park. The Häntzschelstiege can only be hiked in the ascending direction. It can get very crowded here, especially on weekends! Sure-footedness and a head for heights are absolutely essential.
