The way back and forth leads from Schierke via the Eckerlochstieg to the summit of the Brocken on natural, rustic paths. A good physical condition and good hiking shoes are recommended. It goes over roots, stones and large boulders, also parallel to the railway line. The Brockenbahn can take a good part of the hike away if it gets too strenuous.
A special highlight, the viewing platform at the Brockenhotel, rewards the effort and offers a wonderful view and a great overview of the large summit plateau. Refreshments are possible in the Brockenhotel.
