Brocken via Eckerloch

Popular hiking trail with great views in the Harz National Park, Saxony-Anhalt. This route leads from Schierke via the Eckerlochstieg to the Brocken and back. It is one of the most popular hikes in the Harz Mountains and is the shortest route on the Brocken. The 500 meters in altitude that have to be overcome rise continuously over the course of the route and also lead over stony and partly root-rich terrain. Sturdy shoes should therefore be brought to the hike. However, the efforts are rewarded with fantastic views of the Harz National Park. The path leads through forests and along a rocky landscape until you cross the Brockenbahn. The last part of the ascent to the Brocken then runs along the Brocken Road. Once at the top, there is a cozy restaurant where you can stop, relax and enjoy the view before heading back to Schierke. For the outward or return journey, there is also the option of taking the Harz narrow-gauge railway. The starting point of this traditional hiking trail is the Schierke National Park House, in Schierke itself there are parking spaces and the option of arriving by train.
