It starts in Wernigerode and with a fairly steady ascent through the beautiful natural Harz landscape to Drei Annen Hohne. Then in a northwesterly direction through the fairytale landscape full of cliffs to the Ilsestein. This part of the route runs through the very edge of the Harz National Park. Beautiful views will accompany you. Past Ilsenburg it then goes back through idyllic forests. There are places to stop for refreshments along the route. Accessible by bus and train.
