The ruins of Harzburg Castle are located on the Großer Burgberg, above the town of Bad Harzburg in Saxony. The starting point on the castle grounds can be reached by cable car or a steep footpath. There are great views of the Harz Mountains from the mountain. Restored parts of the castle include the castle fountain, the remains of a tower, parts of the castle walls and the gate system. A restaurant also invites to linger. From there, the trail follows idyllic forest paths around the Spüketalskopf and Kaltetalskopf. There is another place to stop for refreshments halfway along the circular route - the Rabenklippe forest restaurant.
