Canossa Benefiz Berglauf 2021 - 12km

Popular running event in the Harz Mountains, Lower Saxony. The approximately 12 km long mountain run starts in the Kurpark Bad Harzburg opposite the "House of Nature", below the Burgberg cable car. The route leads over the pedestrian bridge (overpass of the B4), past the "fairytale forest", under the dome of the treetop path and on a narrow forest path directly to the right of the stream for about 1 km, slightly uphill into the forest. A marshal then points the way sharply to the right. After a few hundred meters, along the course of a moat, the steepest section of this route follows. Another marshal guides on the 2 km steep, partly uneven section in the direction of Molkenhaus. Approximately 50 m in front of the Molkenhaus, the marshal guides at a 90° angle to the right. A well-developed, slightly uphill forest path leads straight ahead for almost 2 km. At the next crossing, the route turns left in the direction of the Eckertalsperre (never walk straight ahead!). Another marshal is waiting at the next junction. Now turn left from the developed forest path onto a steep, washed-out, difficult path, which after a short distance leads to an approx. 150m long piece of asphalt road. It goes straight ahead to the refuge at the "Luisenbank" above the Ecketalsperre. Here you leave the asphalt road in the direction of Molkenhaus. The highest point of the route has been reached! One can relax and enjoy the wonderful view of the Eckertalsperre and Brocken on a horizontal path. About 2 km further on, the Molkenhaus must remain on the top left. A marshal now points to the right in the direction of Rabenklippe and “Tiefe Kohlstelle”. It goes straight ahead on a bumpy route to the crossroads at the "Tiefen Kohlstelle" with a shelter and a charcoal burner's hut. The hardest part is already done. From here, both routes now unite. The route follows a well-developed horizontal slope path with a fantastic view of the opposite mixed forests with their young green, the mighty Brocken and the wide foreland. The next intermediate destination is the "Säperstelle". For an intermediate sprint, the uphill hairpin bend on the right-hand side is passed to the left - it's finally downhill! Passing another hairpin bend, this time on the left-hand side, turn right onto the large Säperstelle crossing. Soon it will be done and the last reserves will be activated. A marshal points to the left in the direction of Burgberg. On a gravel path with partly difficult ground, the lower-lying "St. Antonius Platz”. The goal is almost in sight. While the gaze wanders to the right and the view over the Harz foothills inspires ... the finish line is crossed.
