This route hike partly follows the marked Hünenweg through the Gehnwald. The Hünenweg largely corresponds to the former Friesenweg, which was created in the 1930s as a connecting path between Osnabrück and Friesland and is considered one of the few hiking trails between Weser and Ems that can look back on a longer history. After the name change, the markings for the Friesenweg were not removed everywhere, so they still show the way on the Hünenweg today.
The hike starts at the train station in Bramsche, which can be easily reached again by bus from Ueffeln after completing the route. There are many great views along the way: the view from the open area on the southern edge in the westernmost foothills of the Wiehengebirge is particularly beautiful. Via Achmer (Deukabunker) the view goes to the Piesberg, the coal-fired power station on the Schafberg and the Teutoburg Forest. The flowering heath areas invite to rest and relax on the benches provided. The nearby quarry is still in operation - quartz is mined here.
