Fontane-Stadttour - Neuruppin

A stroll through downtown Neuruppin is a welcome break from the FONTANE.RAD route. The Fontane city tour starts near the Rheinsberger Tor in the memorial grove with the graves of mother and sister Theodor Fontanes and takes a detour to the grave of son Friedrich back to downtown Neuruppin. Here is the place of his birth - the Fontane house with the Löwen pharmacy - close to the formative places of his childhood and youth, such as the parish church of St. Marien, the old grammar school and the superintendent's apartment where Fontane lived as a grammar school student. On the city tour, you can also visit places that only became important to Fontane later, such as the Kühn printing works, the Neuruppin museum or the preacher's widow's house. A printed tour guide and a bike map for the entire FONTANE.RAD route are available free of charge at the Neuruppin Tourist Information Center, and information boards provide information about individual Fontane locations. The route can be reached by bus and train.
