The hike from Spitzingsee to the Rotwandhaus, just below the summit of the Rotwand, takes around 3 hours. From there there is a magnificent view over the mountain range of the Pre-Alps. The route begins at the valley station of the Taubensteinbahn, which operates during the summer months. See Tips for more information. It is possible to take the train or walk up to the mountain station and on to the Rotwandhaus. There are places to stop for refreshments along the way, including in the Albert Link Hut (not directly along the route suggested here) or in the Alte Wurzhütte.
