Demanding ascent to the Neue Traunsteiner Hütte, Bavaria.
From the Wachterl car park, the trail briefly leads in the direction of the Schwarzbachalm. Finally, turning right, you leave the wide forest road and find yourself on increasingly narrow Wachtelsteig trails. The path, which is very steep in parts, leads up through the forest in serpentines over numerous wooden steps and partly over ladders. It goes past the dilapidated Obere Schwaigealm and you reach the plateau of the Reiter Alm. Up and down through stone pine and pine forests of the plateau and a bit through the famous Saugasse you finally reach the Neue Traunsteiner Hütte.
For a day tour you should be experienced and in good condition. A head for heights and surefootedness are required.
