Hochkalter - Kleinkalter - Schöner Fleck - Blaueishütte

The route explores the high-alpine world above the picturesque Hintersee and leads directly to the Blaueis, a remnant of the last ice age. The Blaueishütte provides a resting spot amidst jagged peaks where Golden Eagles can often be seen circling in the thermals. For the further ascent toward Kleinkalter, alpine experience and sturdy footwear are necessary as the path transitions into rocky terrain. Historically, the location is shaped by the forces of nature; the original hut was destroyed by an avalanche in the 1950s and later rebuilt in a more sheltered spot. Today, the area is under the strict protection of the national park, which promotes wilderness following the philosophy of letting nature be nature. This approach allows rare species like the Alpine Salamander to be discovered in their natural habitat.
