The Schönkahler is a frequently visited, easy-to-climb mountain in both summer and winter. This variant starts from the "Achtalstraße Bärenmoosalpe" car park and first leads to the beautiful Bärenmoosalpe. The alp is open between June and mid-September. Delicious food can be enjoyed here and the young cattle run around the alp, creating a special atmosphere.
The route then leads through the forest, first on a forest road and then on a hiking trail to the Ächsele peaks. It then goes down to Hölljoch and fairly flat to the Pfrontner Alpe and from there on a well-travelled path to the summit. For the descent, a shorter route to the Schönkahler car park can be chosen. It is possible to either walk back to the starting point or to look for helpful people who go in the right direction.
