Trail reviews for Freycinet National Park
You need a park pass to enter Freycinet National Park but that’s easy. The trail starts at a large car park / trail head and is well marked. Great views of Wineglass bay from the look out before stairs dropping to beach. Well maintained with a toilet at beach. Great track from beach across peninsula to Hazards beach with a great, hard packed sandy beach. Now for the important bit - there is a lot more hidden climb on the second part of the trail. In all two Coros watches both logged 510m and not 358m. All in all a great loop and worth the time.
Good trail, in good conditions. Did it in 3 days staying at Cook’s Beach and Wine Glass Bay. Toilets were good. Did the entire walk in running shoes comfortably. I recommend doing Mt Freycinet; it was the highlight.
Great loop, best with nice clear weather to be able to see some views. First 15 ish km’s quite flat and easy going. The final ascent to Mount Freycinet was quite steep and techy, so we left our big packs where the trail split. Well marked trail with orange arrows to the summit though. Variable weather up there at 620m elevation so make sure to bring warm gear & shells. Heading to Mt Graham and then the descent into Wineglass Bay gets quite technical, lots of rocky sections so pretty sketchy when wet - trekking poles were super clutch. Wineglass bay to the car park is a staircase so not difficult but still a good final challenge after about 30kms.
Please please please take your rubbish with you. The amount of toilet paper, bottles and cans on the trail was disgusting. Freycinet is such a beautiful part of the world so it was heartbreaking to see the way people are treating it.
One of my places to visit. No matter the season, Freycinet is reliable.
A really beautiful track. Carpark was very overcrowded and busy. Campsites were clean but be mindful of the crows at Cooks Camp (they will open your pack and help themselves!). Bryans Beach is definetly worth visiting, it's a very easy track as a quick detour. There was enough water in the tank at Cooks Beach but the creeks after this were quite low (Jimmy's Rivulet, Eastern Creek, Callitrus Creek) until you get to Wineglass Bay Camp where there is a freshwater creek. I carried 10L of water just in case but in the end wasn't necessary for a casual three day hike. Relatively steep up Mount Freycinet but the track is well marked. Highly recommend.
