Best trails in Burleigh Head National Park
This small but scenic park is about 90 km south of Brisbane and features the Burleigh Headland. The headland itself has very steep sides that rise up about 80m from the ocean below. The walls were formed long ago from molten lava flowing all the way to the ocean, which have been carved out over time by ocean waves.
The park is home to many diverse plant and animal species along with a variety of landscapes in its small 27ha size. In the park you'll find rainforest, eucalypt forest, tussock grassland, mangroves, coastal heath, beaches, rocky foreshore, humpback whales, ospreys, and sea-eagles all sharing the natural landscape.
Aboriginal people have lived in the Burleigh area for countless generations. Sites on Burleigh headland and Tallebudgera Creek are important to the Traditional Owners, the local Aboriginal tribe known as the Minjungbal people.
