Length: 102.9 mi • Est. Multi-day
The Berlin Wall divided the German capital for 28 years - and separated West Berlin until 1989 almost insurmountable from the territory of the GDR. Today, the visitor must go in search of clues to discover the remains of the former border fortifications. The best way to do this is by bike, on the "Berlin Wall Trail". Large parts of the Berlin Wall Trail have the character of a historical themed trail: whether Glienicker Brücke or Checkpoint Charlie - the "Cold War" between West and East can still be experienced en route. Many of the pistes on which you roll are largely historical, as the Berlin Wall Trail usually runs on the "customs routes" in the west and the "Kolonnenwegen", which once used the GDR border troops for their control rides. Signposted throughout and largely car-free on the surrounding areas. The mostly flat bike paths are mostly paved, some sections have a water-bound road surface or consist of historic concrete slabs. #7 - Teufelsberg Loop
Grunewald

Length: 1.8 mi • Est. 55 m
This is a sightseeing and adventure tour. First, the route goes up the stairs to the Teufelsberg, the Drachenauslaufgebiet area of Berlin. Sometimes you can see paragliders there. From there you also have a great view over Berlin and the Grunewald. Continue to the DAV climbing rock, then to a great downhill track for mountain bikes or Cross Country Fullys. After that comes a real highlight - the NSA listening station of Berlin Teufelsberg. It was planned as a recreational area, but was thwarted for the time being, since the US Army used the mountain for a radio system. The initial mobile installation for monitoring the airspace - especially the three flight corridors between Berlin and the FRG - was soon expanded. After German reunification, the plant was dismantled. The attempt to convert this area into condominiums has dissolved.Show more

Length: 3.1 mi • Est. 1 h 26 m
Visit the death strip, sites of escapes, a park that reclaims the wall's dark history and hip stores and cafes This tour begins at a Berlin Wall memorial that features remaining parts of the dividing barrier and potent reminders of those who died trying to cross it. The tour ends in East Berlin's hip Prenzlauerberg neighborhood, home to many dissidents during the German Democratic Republic, and currently a great area for grabbing a snack or doing a spot of shopping. Along the way, you will experience sobering views of the death strip, a grassy no-man's land that separated the inner wall on the east side from the larger outer wall on the west side. You also will see where people jumped to safety as the wall was being built as well as landmark houses where underground tunnels provided an exit route for dozens of dissidents before being discovered by Stasi (East Germany's secret police) spies. The contrast between then and now is most stark in Mauer Park, an afternoon meeting place in the middle of the death strip for musicians, boule players, young mothers and graffiti artists.Show more

Length: 23.2 mi
The start and end point of the bike tour is the Wannsee S-Bahn station. Alternatively, the tour can be started at the S-Bahn station in Potsdam, for example. The track can be ridden on city or touring bikes and follows the paths officially open to cyclists within the palace gardens. There is no shortage of places to stop along the route. There are also enough places for self-caterers on the edge of the path to consume the provisions they have brought with them in scenic surroundings.Show more
