Berlin Wall Trail Stage 6: Schöneweide - Schönefeld

This route follows stage 6 of the Berlin Wall Trail, connecting Schöneweide with Schönefeld on a historically significant section in the southern part of the city. The hike leads for a long stretch along the Teltow Canal, whose banks marked the heavily fortified border during the division of Germany. A historical highlight along the path is a well-preserved, authentic section of the original Wall complex located just ahead of the Rudower Höhe hill. Shortly before reaching the destination, hikers also pass the former Waltersdorfer Chaussee border crossing, which once served exclusively West Germans and foreign travelers heading to Schönefeld Airport. Accommodations and refreshments like local restaurants and cafés are easily found in the surrounding Berlin neighborhoods and near the destination airport area; wild camping is prohibited. The starting point at the Forsthausallee bus stop is easily reached via bus connections from the Köllnische Heide or Sonnenallee S-Bahn stations, while buses at the end point connect directly to Schönefeld station (offering S-Bahn and regional train access); schedules at https://www.vbb.de.
