Popular circular hiking trail in the Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park, Bavaria.
On the paths of Wolfram von Eschenbach and to the former castle on the Haidstein: you leave the town centre along side roads in the direction of Zeltendorf, Bachmaierholz and Liebenstein (refreshments: Wellness-Hotel Bayerwaldhof). After a hollow in the valley, the path climbs steadily towards Haidstein (742 m) with its castle chapel. The former keep offers a distant view of the Cham valley. After a refreshment stop at the Haidstein mountain inn, the route then descends along forest paths to the hamlet of "Ried am Haidstein". In the centre of the village stands the mighty 1000-year-old Wolfram lime tree, where the famous minstrel Wolfram von Eschenbach is said to have once stayed. The route continues downhill through extensive forests in the direction of Gradis. After crossing the main road, the trail turns into the unspoilt and natural Steinbachtal valley (refreshments: Hotel Am Steinbachtal). After another crossing of the main road and the river Weißer Regen, you walk on the right side of the river past the Regenstein Chapel and across the "Auwiesen" spa gardens back to Bad Kötzting.
