From Gluto over the Hockstein to Rathen

This hike explores the eastern part of the Saxon Switzerland National Park. Impressive sandstone formations such as the quarry tower or the fire pyramid line the way. You should have a head for heights, as some of the rocks can be climbed using well-secured ladders. It starts at Porschdorf train station. From there it's a good bit uphill via the Tiefen Grund in the direction of Brand-Baude. There are some worthwhile detours with promising views along the way. Continue on forest paths through the Polenztal, partly on the Hohnstein nature trail. From the Polenztal, turn sharp left onto the “Knot Path” and begin the return journey. Through the Amselgrund past the idyllic Amselsee it goes to the Elbe. There the Elbe can be crossed by ferry (note times and prices). The route ends at the train station in Oberrathen.
