Rathener Runde zum Amselsee und aussichtsreichem Gamrig

Sure-footedness required. The tour includes ferry crossings. The starting point of the hike is the train station in the spa town of Rathen or the parking lot (on the left bank of the Elbe). The historic yaw rope ferry takes you across the Elbe. In the village, turn left between the houses into the Amselgrund and you will soon reach the Amselsee lake. This idyllic, dammed lake lies between steep, overgrown slopes and rocks. A special experience, especially on hot summer days, is a boat trip on the Amselsee with a magnificent rocky backdrop including a locomotive, lamb, stork's nest and valley guard. At the end of the lake, turn right via Höllgrund (green line), Pionierweg (green line) and Knotenweg (not marked in color) into Koppelsgrund. Here the route turns left onto the Füllholzelweg (red line) and shortly afterwards turns right up to the Gamrig (not marked in color). After the short and steep ascent, you are rewarded with a magnificent view: the Elbe valley lies at your feet, the town of Wehlen, Pirna, Königstein Fortress, the Lilienstein, with the Schrammsteine and Bohemian Switzerland beyond. Caution: unlike most viewpoints, there are no railings! The original nature of the weathered sandstone summit with its panoramic view should be preserved. Return from the summit down the same path. Before returning, it is worth making a detour to the nearby Gamrighöhle cave. On the way back, just before the road, a path branches off to the right and leads back to Rathen (Aspichgraben).
