The loop trail in beautiful Saxon Switzerland begins in the spa town of Rathen, which is idyllically situated on the Elbe River. From there, the trail leads to the famous Hockstein viewpoint, featuring some of the area’s unique rock formations. The return route takes you through the romantic Polenz Valley along the river that gives the valley its name. If you keep an eye out, you can spot dippers here.
The trail starts at the ferry landing in the spa town of Rathen. You can reach it by S-Bahn or by car (paid parking available along the Elbe). The spa town itself is open only to residents and is therefore not accessible by car.
The tour is located within the national park; you must stay on the trails, and dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. For more information on the rules in the national park: https://nationalpark-saechsische-schweiz.de/verhalten#nlp
