7 Burgentour - Pfälzer Wald/Nordvogesen

Cross-border hike between Palatinate and Alsace, Rhineland-Palatinate. This popular hiking trail on the German-French border in the Dahner Felsenland leads to 7 castles. These are testimonies of the Middle Ages from the 12th century. The landscape also offers picturesque views over the hilly landscape of the Palatinate Forest. The start is on the German side in Schönau. There are several parking spaces and you can also travel there by bus. It first goes past Brackenberg and Sindelsberg to Wegelnburg, over to Hohenburg (on the French side), on to Löwenstein and over the rock path to Fleckenstein. Finally, the Sauer is crossed in the valley before slowly climbing up to the Froensburg. After you have enjoyed the view here, too, the path continues past the gypsy rock to the Wasigenstein. Shortly before the Blumenstein, the German Palatinate side is reached again. With some ascents, the route is sometimes very demanding. The hiking trails are mostly marked and dominating are narrow paths through pine forests past imposing red sandstone cliffs.
