Fifth section of the Töddenweg long-distance hiking trail in Münsterland, North Rhine-Westphalia.
The trade route, also known as the Töddenweg, leads from Osnabrück to Deventer in Holland and follows in the footsteps of the traders and merchants (known as "Tödden") of yesteryear. For example, they brought the linen cloth produced in Tecklenburger Land to the Netherlands.
This section of the route leads from Hummeldorf to Bad Bentheim and can be walked in both directions. While the river flows towards the North Sea, the route heads west towards the Netherlands.
As far as Schüttorf, the route leads along quiet paths through beautiful countryside. In Samerott, the route meets the legendary Raven Tree.
In Bad Bentheim, the path of the merchants leads to Bentheim Castle. The beautiful medieval fortress towers as a landmark in the middle of the town
