Varied hike on the Baltic Sea island of Rügen from Juliusruh, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The trail starts in Juliusruh and leads along the coast to the picturesque fishing village of Vitt and then to Cape Arkona, where the famous old lighthouse is located. Cape Arkona is one of the most popular excursion destinations on the Baltic Sea island and is a 43-metre-high cliff made of chalk and boulder clay on the Wittow peninsula. The coastal route definitely inspires a sense of adventure. At the beginning, the route is beautiful over pleasantly passable sand. Later, the beach becomes rockier. Some of the fallen trees on the beach require a little climbing talent.
On the way back, the route passes through Putgarten, Mattchow and Altenkirchen. The trail is a lovely little exploration of the northern part of the island of Rügen and offers great views of the Baltic Sea. There are refreshment stops along the way.
