The Berlin Wall divided the German capital for 28 years - and separated West Berlin until 1989 almost insurmountable from the territory of the GDR. Today, the visitor must go in search of clues to discover the remains of the former border fortifications. The best way to do this is by bike, on the "Berlin Wall Trail". Large parts of the Berlin Wall Trail have the character of a historical themed trail: whether Glienicker Brücke or Checkpoint Charlie - the "Cold War" between West and East can still be experienced en route. Many of the pistes on which you roll are largely historical, as the Berlin Wall Trail usually runs on the "customs routes" in the west and the "Kolonnenwegen", which once used the GDR border troops for their control rides. Signposted throughout and largely car-free on the surrounding areas. The mostly flat bike paths are mostly paved, some sections have a water-bound road surface or consist of historic concrete slabs. This route leads through the south of Berlin. It starts at the S-Bahn station Südkreuz and first goes along the Schöneberg southern area, where you can admire wild nature about forgotten technology. Then it continues on the Mariendorfer-Hafen-Weg, a narrow path between railway and commercial terrain, which is to be expanded by 2025 to a pedestrian and cycle path with adjacent green belt.Show more

The start and end point of the bike tour is the Wannsee S-Bahn station. Alternatively, the tour can be started at the S-Bahn station in Potsdam, for example. The track can be ridden on city or touring bikes and follows the paths officially open to cyclists within the palace gardens. There is no shortage of places to stop along the route. There are also enough places for self-caterers on the edge of the path to consume the provisions they have brought with them in scenic surroundings.Show more
