Length: 102.9 mi • Est. Multi-day
The Berlin Wall divided the German capital for 28 years - and separated West Berlin until 1989 almost insurmountable from the territory of the GDR. Today, the visitor must go in search of clues to discover the remains of the former border fortifications. The best way to do this is by bike, on the "Berlin Wall Trail". Large parts of the Berlin Wall Trail have the character of a historical themed trail: whether Glienicker Brücke or Checkpoint Charlie - the "Cold War" between West and East can still be experienced en route. Many of the pistes on which you roll are largely historical, as the Berlin Wall Trail usually runs on the "customs routes" in the west and the "Kolonnenwegen", which once used the GDR border troops for their control rides. Signposted throughout and largely car-free on the surrounding areas. The mostly flat bike paths are mostly paved, some sections have a water-bound road surface or consist of historic concrete slabs.
