Loop
Demanding and scenic loop in the Bavarian Forest.
The loop to the Lusen via the summer trail in the Bavarian Forest is very impressive. Not only the striking peak, but also the accumulation of bizarre rock around the hiking trail make this route something special. Before it could be scientifically explained how these block seas, which are typical for the area, came about, people blamed giants or even the devil for the creation of this landscape. In fact, however, the blocks were formed by the frequent frost changes in the Pleistocene, during which water penetrated small cracks in the stones and split them as it expanded during freezing.
As this area fell victim to bark beetles in the early 1990's, the natural forest development in the area can now be seen very well - little by little the forest is returning here.
The hike starts at the Waldhäuser Blick car park. Before climbing the Himmelsleiter ("ladder to heaven"), the magnificent view of the Lusen summit can be enjoyed. From here the path leads over the steep stone steps up to the Blockmeer on the Lusen to the summit cross at 1,373 m.
