Loop
Beginning near Urfeld or the Herzogstandbahn valley station, the journey begins on wide forest trails before climbing toward the upper mountain station and the summit of Herzogstand. Hikers cross a dramatic ridge that connects Herzogstand to Heimgarten, navigating rocky steps, narrow ledges, and short rope-assisted scrambles. Beyond the Heimgarten peak, the path drops sharply down south-facing slopes through pine woods and mountain pastures toward the valley floor at Walchensee. The open ridge offers little shade from the sun, and the steep descent can be demanding on knees, making sturdy footwear and steady footing ideal for completing the full loop back to the lake.
