From the mountain station of the Tegelbergbahn, the hike begins on a wide path downhill. The route runs parallel to the European long-distance hiking trail E4. After a while, the wide path changes to the sunny south side of the mountain and leads down the western ridge. Views of Neuschwanstein Castle, built by the fairytale king Ludwig II, open up again and again, which is approaching step by step. Soon the path becomes easier and leads through a beautiful beech forest. Shortly before the Marienbrücke, which leads over the Pöllat Gorge at a dizzying height, the route passes another excellent vantage point. The path narrows in many places. Again and again there are places to scramble on rock faces. Many of the switchbacks have eroded. Sure-footedness and sturdy shoes are therefore a must.
